BIRTH: Age at burial on 2 Jun 1782, 88 yrs 4 mo; places birth in Feb 1694. Birthplace assumed to be Germany, but may have been Alsace-Lorraine.
IMMIGRATION: St. Andrew Galley, arrival Philadelphia, 26 Sep 1737 from Rotterdam by way of Cowes. Ship's list does not indicate that Ludwig was accompanied by wife or children. Baptism record of son Johann Ludwig [2 Feb 1747, St. Michael's Lutheran] shows Johann's birthdate as 24 Dec 1736. This would indicate that Ludwig Kolb immigrated with his wife and at least 1 child.

OTHER: May be brother or other relation of Leonart Kolb (Coale) arriving in Philadelphia 30 Nov 1730 on Ship Joyce with wife Anna. Family tradition claims that Culps are descended from brother or other relation of Johannes Kelpius, leader of "Monks of Wissahickon", a group of German pietists arriving in Philadelphia 1694 on Ship Sarah Maria Hopewell and settling along Wissahickon near Roxborough. There were 40 men in group, all celibate scholars. Group disbanded in 1708 after death of Kelpius; most of the men married and settled down around Germantown. Ship's list for Sarah Maria Hopewell is incomplete, so cannot confirm or eliminate another Kelpius or a Kolb (Colb, Culp) as member of group. For now, considering that Johann Ludwig Kolb of Ship St. Andrew Galley is immigrant ancestor; however, research needs to be done in Germantown Historical Society before this can be confirmed.
Johan married Eva Elizabeth ? before 1736 in Germany. (Eva Elizabeth ? was born in 1710 in Germany,2 died in Dec 1798 in Barren Hill, Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania, USA and was buried on 26 Dec 1798 in Germantown, Philadelphia Co, Pennsylvania, USA 2.)
