Marie-Charlotte De Coppequesne was of noble birth, the daughter of Aloph De Coppequesne, Sieur de Bezonville (one of 200 light horsemen in the King's guard) and Honorée de Nointel. She is descended from Firmin Coppequesne, an Englishman who went to France during the siege of Honfleur in 1415. He married a daughter of Thomas Vasseur in 1419 at Friville-Escarbotin.
