It appears from several notarized contracts and work agreements that Jacques made his living as a carpenter. On 13 Jul 1670, he entered into a contract (drawn up by notary Frérot) to build a 20'x16' home for Jacques Lussier. On 30 Nov 1672, he promised to build a 30'x24' barn for René Rémy. For this contract (also drawn up by notary Frérot), Jacques received 18 minots of wheat as payment. On 9 Mar 1673, notary Frérot drew up another contract for Jacques whereby he and master carpenter Claude Jodoin promised to build a barn of Jean de Noyon. On 5 Dec 1674, notrary Frérot drew up a contract between Jacques and François Quintal whereby Jacques promised to build a stone house for Quintal that would measure 24'x18'. The home ---which was to include an attic, 2 doors, 2 windows and a mantelpiece en hoglé-- was to be completed by the feast of Saint-Jean for the price of 160 livres. Out of this fee, 40 livres were to be paid up front, 60 upon completion, and the remaining 60 on the feast of Saint Martin (November 11).
Jacques married Catherine Forestier, daughter of Jean Forestier and Julienne Coiffé, on 19 Nov 1657 in Trois-Rivières, St-Maurice, Québec, Canada.1 (Catherine Forestier was born about 1634 in La Rochelle, Aunis, France,4 died on 31 Mar 1694 in Boucherville, Chambly, Québec, Canada 3 and was buried on 1 Apr 1694 in Boucherville, Chambly, Québec, Canada 3.)
