bullet  General Notes:

In the beginning of the 1650's, marriageable girls were still rare in the Colony. Suitors were not lacking. Marie, Aimee, Madeleine and Suzanne Miville had many to choose from. Advised well by their parents and friends, they agreed to marry the one who offered the most security.

Marie was the first to leave the paternal home. She was not yet eighteen years old when, on November 19, 1650, she accepted the hand of Mathieu Amiot. The meeting for the betrothal took place at the home of her parents in the presence of the following witnesses: Jean Le Sueur, priest of Saint-Sauveur; Charles Sevestre, provost judge of Pointe-de-Lauzon; Martin Boutet dit Saint-Martin, corporal of the garrison of Fort Saint-Louis; Raymond Paget, master woodworker; Nicolas Colson, bailiff and Jacqueline Potel, the wife of Jean Bourdon, the future governor-general of the Sovereign Council. The land that Marie and Mathieu would occupy, on Rue Saint-Louis, had for immediate neighbors Jean Bourdon and Noel Morin. There was yet only the frame of a house there for which Pierre Miville promised to make a roof. The religious ceremony was celebrated on November 22 by the pastor Barthelemy Vimont. Abraham Martin, Nicolas Peltier/Pelletier and Charles Sevestre acting as witnesses.
