bullet  General Notes:

OCCUPATION: Agricultural Laborer (1861 Census)
OCCUPATION: Laborer in Flax Mill (1851 Census)
Named spelled "McAvoy" in 1851 and 1861 census, "McEvoy" in 1871 census and after.

Have personally searched in Public Records of North Ireland (PRONI) for record of Daniel McAvoy, father of Mary McAvoy. It is known from daughter's marriage record that Daniel was a laborer. This being the case, Daniel would not have been a landowner --thus, no land records or voting records would exist.

Daniel's daughter, Mary, was married in the Catholic church and indicates that she was born in County Down (UK census records). Thus we assume that Daniel was Catholic, living in County Down when Mary was born, around 1829.

Catholic records earlier than the 1840's are incomplete for County Down. Only one baptism record was found for a Mary McAvoy or McEvoy with a father named Daniel: 2 Apr 1826, district Neury: Mary McEvoy of Daniel and Ann ?; sponsors Samuel McShane and Sarah McCan. Mary's mother is identified in the 1881 UK census as "Mary McEvoy", so this baptism record is likely not our Mary's record.
