Isabella Reed

  General Notes:

BIRTH: 1870 Census lists Isabella as 24 years old, making birth year about 1846. 1880 Census lists Isabella as 31 years old, making birth year 1849. Death certificate lists age as 43 on 12/28/84, making birth year 1841. Place of birth is shown on death certificate as Philadelphia.

DEATH: Certificate #21286, Philadelphia Bureau of Health - Division of Vital Statistics. Cause of death - Pneumonia. Place of death is shown on death certificate as 31 Oakford St, Philadelphia (26th Ward).

OTHER: 1870 Census shows Isabella married to Thomas Cougle, with one child "Willie" age 2. They are residing at 2005 Brianna St., Phila.

BURIAL: Greenwood Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; Undertaker - J.E. Chew, 2031 Ellsworth Street.

The 1850 census for the Kensington area of Philadelphia, lists a John Reed (age 44, abt. 1806) and a Martha Reed (age 40, abt. 1810). John is a farmer, and both indicate that they were born in Ireland. Three children are listed: John (13), Eliza (10) and Isabella (8). All the children are listed as born in Pennsylvania. This Isabella Reed would have been born about 1841 or 1842; this birth year is consistent with the age given on my Isabella Reed's death certificate. Martha was the middle name of my great-grandmother (Isabella's daughter). I feel John and Martha Reed are probably her parents, but I have not yet located the record that connects Isabella to them.

Isabella married Thomas Cougle about 1867. (Thomas Cougle was born in 1838 in USA ³ and died between 1872 and 1875 in Pennsylvania, USA.)

Isabella next married John Andrew Culp, son of John Culp and Rebecca Vandike, about 1875 in Pennsylvania, USA. (John Andrew Culp was born on 18 Nov 1828 in Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania, USA ⁴, baptized on 11 Jan 1829 in Barren Hill, Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania, USA,⁴ died on 16 Jan 1914 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co, Pennsylvania, USA ⁵ and was buried on 20 Jan 1914 in Lansdowne, Delaware Co, Pennsylvania, USA ⁶.)
